The City of Henderson now has a new space in Atkinson Park available for rentals.

The Board of Commissioners finalized an ordinance setting fees and rates for Atkinson Clubhouse, formerly the clubhouse at Municipal Golf Course, at a special-called meeting on Tuesday afternoon. The fees will be the same as rates to rent the Denton Shelter, also in Atkinson Park.

It was the regular meeting day for the board, but it was designated as a special-called meeting based on its start time and its format as a video teleconference.

The Henderson Municipal Center is still closed to public traffic as it has been since the state of emergency was instated in mid-March with the COVID-19 outbreak.

In other business, the commission:

  • Awarded a bid to ElectriCom LLC of Paoli, Ind., for work on the extension of a Henderson Municipal Gas line on the Kentucky 425 by-pass ($270,080).
  • Appointed Brent Wilkerson to the Tax Assessment Appeals Board.
  • Reappointed Alan Taylor to the Code Enforcement Board.
  • City Clerk Maree Collins made a brief presentation about new tools to help citizens access meetings electronically and communicate with both city staff and city elected officials.

During a work session included with the meeting, the board heard a presentation from City Attorney Dawn S. Kelsey about the city’s civil service system and made suggestions about potential changes in the system. The board instructed Mrs. Kelsey to prepare an ordinance about the civil service system for consideration in August.

The next meeting is set for Tuesday, Aug. 11.
